The Governors approved a new attendance policy in partnership with the West Somerset Education Partnership (WSEP). This was needed as historically, our attendance rates as a school have not been where it needs to be. The national average is 95% and last year we got 93.2%. It may not seem very far off but it does equate to many days off school and longer-term, years. Research shows that poor attendance is linked to underachievement. We are aiming for 96% and this new policy helps us to achieve this.
We have been working with our Attendance Officer Elaine Detain from WSEP and the work done so far has had a big impact. The new policy is more rigorous, is set out clearer and shows what support can be on offer if parents/ carers are struggling with attendance.
The new policy is available here for you to read.
