Parents in Open School Event

15th September 2019

As part of our presentation and expectations mini-topic to start the term off, the children invited their parents and carers into class to look at work they are proud of from the first fortnight back.

In Alfoxton class (Year 2/3), children were showing off a junk model they had made and were talking about their handwriting work that they have started to improve the look of the work in their books.

In Triscombe class (Reception/Year 1) children were seen talking showing off their drawings and paintings and it was a lovely chance for parents to see how their children have settled in particularly for our 9 new children in Reception.

In Beacon class (Year 4/5/6), the children were proudly displaying their writing and Maths work. The class have also been doing colour mixing in Art lessons, expanding their vocabulary of colours and conducting sketchbook work. Parents seemed very happy by what they saw and it was a great chance for children to present to a real audience.

Next week, the term's work on the Topic of The Quantocks begins and it has a creative Arts theme to it. The children are meeting Alice Maddicott from Halsway Manor to take part in this and will be working with artists, musicians, and authors. Our appreciation is given to our friends at EDF who have helped finance this exciting initiative. The idea is that we will create an ongoing exhibition for the community and we intend to get parents involved in the curation and content of this.
